Way of the Puck, Everett Kane, Santiago Steps
…Spread the Word

Parlor games, conversation and…Air Hockey? “On the surface air hockey seems like a story with very low stakes. Or no stakes at all. I get a lot of this. ‘Air hockey?’ people say, nodding slowly. ‘That game from the 70s? Hunh.’ Then they either perk up and become very animated or they kind of grunt and walk away. Air hockey isn’t the unpopular kid who gets kicked around at recess; air hockey is the kid no one notices, including the teacher. It’s a forgotten arcade game, a kid’s game, a relic, a hobby, a diversion, a trifle—and what could be less important than that?” Please join director Eric Anderson when he presents a sample of his newly released documentary, Way of the Puck (http://www.wayofthepuck.com), a film about air hockey and the universe. The evening will culminate with a live set of music by the Santiago Steps (http://www.santiagosteps.com/) , one of the bands whose music is featured in Way of the Puck.

The evening’s bookmark artist is Everett Kane, a fine artist, 3D character specialist, game designer, programmer, and producer/consultant for the film, design, and advertising industries in Los Angeles. He is currently the Director of Education for Location One, a Manhattan-based nonprofit focused on the convergence of technology and the arts.

As always, we will serve piping hot, organic, locally roasted, sustainably farmed coffee from the Coffee Cellar (www.coffeecellar.com) and, yes, there will be a secret Southern cocktail.

Password:
“Air hockey still loves you.”

Why socialize on a Sunday? Because mingling is good for your mental health.

He is currently the Director of Education for Location One, a Manhattan-based nonprofit focused on the convergence of technology and the arts. Everett's clients include Nike, Weiden & Kennedy, Klasky-Csupo, CalTech, Pixel Blocks, and DZI. For the last 9 years, he has been teaching 3D character modeling, animation, special effects, digital compositing, digital painting, fine arts, and experimental digital media at Art Center College of Design. He has also taught for The Academy of Entertainment Technology, the Gnomon School, the Pacific Institute of Art and Design and the USC Fine Art Department. Everett received a B.A. in Philosophy of Religion from Princeton University, a BFA and an MFA in Fine Arts from Art Center College of Design.

Eric D. Anderson has been in the film busines for fifteen years but don't hold that against him. He was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest where he attended top-rated Evergreen State College, emerging with a degree in film production and an award-winning short called The Delivery. Whether working as a professional cameraman or working on one of his numerous writing projects, Eric remains committed to the craft of storytelling. His bittersweet collection of short stories, Monkeybarrelling, is now under consideration at several publishing houses. Currently, he is revising his first novel, Strange Weather, and collaborating with Emmy-winning director Michael Fimognari on a feature-length screenplay called The Secret Unbelievable. Eric is the twenty-seventh ranked air hockey player in the world and a fun guy to have around. Way of the Puck is his first feature film. http://www.wayofthepuck.com

The Santiago Steps have made pop songs for discerning listeners for something like six years now. Despite having a teeny tiny group of listeners, OC Weekly has written, "What better band to make us feel hopeful about humanity than the Santiago Steps?" And the Register chose their CD Points & Corners one of the ten best local releases of 2005. As you can imagine, they are from (unfortunate phrase) the OC but split their performing duties between the county of oranges and the county of angels. The Steps also contributed five songs to the Way of the Puck soundtrack. More info: http://www.thesantiagosteps.com
