Julie Eizenberg of Koning Eizenberg Architecture Marc Rowan Gravelle & the sounds of Haru Kuroi
…Spread the Word

Smart Gals' July Speakeasy promises an intimate and engaging conversation with design visionary Julie Eizenberg , a founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture ( www.kearch.com ). Located in Santa Monica, Koning Eizenberg Architecture is known for its innovative approach to sustainable design and recently received a National AIA Honor Award for the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh. Julie Eizenberg will present the work of the firm, and introduce her newly published book, Architecture Isn't Just for Special Occasions (Monacelli Press).

Gird your structural loins for this month's parlor game, however, as the evening will begin with a lively Jenga challenge. The victorious and the failed alike will be restored from this heated building battle by the dulcet tones of Los Angeles-based trio, Haru Kuroi www.myspace.com/harukuroi .

The evening's bookmark artist is Marc Rowan Gravelle , whose creative work spans fashion, fine art and graphic design.

As always, we will serve piping hot, organic, locally roasted, sustainably farmed coffee from the Coffee Cellar (www.coffeecellar.com) and, yes, there will be a secret up-to-code cocktail.

Julie Eizenberg
is a founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture in Santa Monica and holds degrees in Architecture from both the University of Melbourne Australia and UCLA.   As Design Principal, she has led the design effort for projects including the recent Farmers Market Expansion, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, Plummer Park Community Center, Virginia Avenue Park Expansion, and Harold Way housing. Her belief that design excellence can be achieved in restricted-budget and socially-oriented projects has been a driving force in the firm and the success of the projects nationally and internationally has helped refocus architects' attention on these issues. Award-winning projects include market-rate and affordable housing, mixed-use, community centers, schools, commercial buildings and hotels.

Marc Rowan Gravelle is a Los Angeles based artist with a degree in fashion design. As part of his eclectic career, Gravelle has decorated cakes for Hollywood celebrities for more than a decade. His fine art work embraces a variety of mediums, from silk printing and silk painting to acrylics, oils, guache and pen and ink. He also finds inspiration in a variety of genres, including Cubism, Impressionism and Realism, as well as abstract and contemporary art. Many have encountered Gravelle's graphic design, namely the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf   "Ice Blended Mocha" logo.
