Virtual New Year's Speakeasy

Bookmark artist: Catherine Beaver

Happy New Year, discerning visitor!

We welcome you to Smart Gals’ Virtual New Year’s Speakeasy. The goal here is simple, to offer you all the fixings of a Smart Gals happening suitable for enjoyment wherever you may be.

Loosely hinged upon the idea of resolution, we bring you two short scenes by Los Angeles-based writers Joey Damiano and Katy Hickman, framed by a fetching, provocative Bookmark by Catherine Beaver. This limited edition artwork, aptly titled “Resolutions” is available only through membership, so please, consider making us official.

Every Speakeasy begins with a game of sorts, and this is no exception. Resolutely selected, almost at random, we present “Who Sings to Me?” a vintage number from our most reliable reference, Games and Game Leadership by Charles F. Smith (1942).

Once you’ve warmed your party up with this little icebreaker, indulge in these freshly written scenes: Katy Hickman’s Considering and Joey Damiano’s The Ass End of Something. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to craft one of your own. Perhaps you’d like to submit a song. We’d love to hear how it goes, so post your musings on our Facebook page.

*Find us live in February at Barnsdall Municipal Gallery when we celebrate our 10th anniversary in conjunction with the Actions, Conversations and Intersections exhibition.
